HR Trustee

The Organisation:

Coiste Cúram Leanaí Phort Láirge (CCLPL) is a Company Limited by Guarantee (CLG) and a registered Charity.  CCLPL receives its core funding from the Department of Children, Equality, Disability, Integration & Youth (DCEDIY) to deliver the annual workplan set by the DCEDIY and Pobal. The funding is administered by Pobal on behalf of DCEDIY.

The main purpose of CCLPL is to develop, support and enhance a wide range of high quality, integrated, accessible and affordable childhood care and education services responsive to the rights and needs of children, their parents/guardians and of communities in Waterford.

General Duties of a Trustee:

  • Complying with the charity’s governing document.
  • Ensuring CCLCL is complying with its charitable purpose for the public benefit.
  • Acting in the best interest of the charity.
  • Acting with reasonable care and skill.
  • Managing the assets of CCLCL.
  • Providing input to the strategic direction of CCLCL and contribute insight, oversight and experience.
  • Policy formation and implementation as required.

Additional Responsibilities of Board Members:

  • Board members may be requested to participate in employee recruitment eg shortlisting, interview panels. 
  • Board members may wish to attend company events eg the Christmas lunch.
  • Board members are required to be directors of the company and some may also be required to be a signatory of the company for banking and contracting purposes.  Signatories may be required to review and sign relevant standard documents eg grant agreement, addendums, reports for the funders (DCEDIY) in the event that these documents are required to be returned to the funders outside of scheduled meetings

Qualities and Skills Required:

  • Good leadership skills.
  • Good communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Impartiality, fairness and the ability to respect confidences.
  • Ability to ensure decisions are taken and followed up.
  • Good timekeeping.
  • Tact and diplomacy.
  • Understanding of the roles and responsibilities of a governing body.

Essential Criteria:

  • Experience in a senior HR role.
  • A strong understanding of HR best practices and compliance.
  • A deep appreciation and knowledge of the not-for-profit sector.
  • An understanding of and commitment to CCLPL’s purpose and values.
  • Commitment to the highest levels of corporate governance.

Desirable Criteria:

  • Experience as a member of the board of a charity.
  • Senior management experience.

Board Meetings:

Board meetings are held on the second Thursday of January, April, July and October, and last between 1.5 to two hours.  The AGM is held in April.  Additional meetings may be scheduled subject to requirements.  Board members may attend in person or online
