Background on STDC: South Tipperary Development Company (STDC) is a voluntary, non-profit organisation dedicated to supporting individuals, families, small businesses, and communities in South Tipperary. Governed by the rules of the Companies Registration Office (CRO) and the Charity Regulator, STDC provides essential services including grant aid, advice, and program delivery. Our organisation can have up to 16 directors, all of whom serve on a voluntary basis and bring a range of skills and perspectives to support our mission. Currently, STDC has 11 directors. Each director typically serves a three-year term, with the option to extend for up to two additional three-year terms. Directors may also choose to opt out at any time.
STDC’s programming includes critical community services such as the Rural Development (LEADER) Programme, Social Inclusion and Community Activation Programme (SICAP), Local Area Employment Services (LAES). Our work also includes initiatives like the New Arrivals Supports and the Traveller Primary Care Programme.
Board Member Responsibilities:
The role of an STDC Board Member is central to the governance and strategic oversight of the organiSation. Board Members are responsible for supporting and guiding STDC’s mission through informed decision-making, collaboration, and community engagement. Theb board have responsibilty in the following areas:
- Governance and Compliance
- Strategic Oversight and Direction
- Program and Financial Oversight
- Community Representation and Advocacy
- Board Meetings and Participation
- Skill and Capacity Building
Commitment and Qualifications: STDC board members are expected to commit to active and engaged service, including regular meeting attendance and occasional participation in STDC events. Ideal candidates will have experience in fields relevant to STDC’s programs (e.g., social work, community development, finance, legal, business) and a deep commitment to the community values that drive STDC’s work.
