Charity Trustees' Week 2024

We are delighted to partner with the Charities Regulator and partner charities to deliver Charity Trustees' Week. 

Charity Trustees’ Week is a great big THANK YOU to charity trustees across Ireland for the important and tireless work they carry out throughout the year. The majority of our events are online which means you can once again take part from the comfort of your home or office. We have created a timetable of diverse events to suit trustees from every type of charity so you can pick and choose from over 10 events.

Charity Trustees’ Week is hosted in partnership by the Charities Regulator, Boardmatch Ireland, Carmichael, The Wheel, Volunteer Ireland, Charities Institute Ireland, Pobal and Dóchas. Charity trustees can pick and choose from a variety of events listed on the Charity Trustees’ Week website.

The Board's Perspective: Governance for Social Impact 

12 November: 3-4pm

Understanding your charity's social impact is critical to enhancing the effectiveness of your work. This webinar will provide a practical overview of how your board should govern the social impact of your organisation. We will discuss: What is social impact and why your board should consider it; How social impact is connected to your organisation's strategy; How your board should approach the governance of social impact in board meetings and reporting; What processes your charity should have in place to maintain accountability. This session will be facilitated by Clodagh O'Reilly, Founder of Social Enterprise Solutions, and experienced board member.

How to Join a Charity Board

Boardmatch’s one hour webinar as part of Charity Trustees' Week 2024 is the best place to kickstart your charity board journey! Hosted by Boardmatch CEO Eva Gurn, this webinar will prepare prospective charity trustees for their board role and provide an opportunity to ask questions, hear from those who have already started their board journey, and understand further what is involved in joining a charity board.

Communicating Your Governance 

14 November: 10-11am

In this practical session, Hannah Coleman of Boardmatch and Claire McGowran of We Act will share insights and actionable steps for demonstrating governance throughout your communications in a way that’s engaging and informative. We will cover how to: Get the basics right Showcase the role of your board Tell trustee stories Design reports supporters will want to read Demonstrate your impact Talk governance on social media.

Back to Basics: Balancing Board and Management Functions

14 November: 3-4pm

A well-functioning board is one that clearly differentiates between the role of the board and the role of staff or management. This 1-hour free webinar is designed to help trustees better understand your roles and responsibilities, in comparison to the volunteers, management, or staff in your charity. We will look at typical examples of where lines can be blurred and how your charity can get back on track to define clear roles within your board and management. This is a practical webinar, providing clear advice, tools, and resources that will help your charity trustees put their best foot forward. This session is facilitated by Gráinne Madden (MBA). Gráinne is an expert in corporate responsibility and business ethics and an experienced trainer and facilitator. She runs a specialist consultancy helping businesses avoid problems, enhance their reputation and harness their power to improve society. She is also an experienced not-for-profit non-executive director.
