PACE is a voluntary sector organisation that works with people with convictions for a wide range of criminal offences. We provide a variety of services to address their needs and that support their safe integration into the community. PACE works in partnership with the Dept of Justice, the Irish Probation Service, Pobal, the Irish Prison Service and the wider community.
We are currently looking to fill the position of Chairperson of PACE.
The Board are particularly interested in individuals with recent and relevant experience in working with community or charity organisations and are familiar with the Charities Regulator’s governance requirements
The role of the Chairperson in a non-profit charity organisation is crucial in ensuring that the organisation’s mission and vision are achieved. The Chairperson will be responsible for providing inclusive leadership to the Board of Trustees, ensuring that each trustee fulfils their duties and responsibilities for the effective governance of PACE.
The chosen Chairperson needs to fully understand the organisation’s business, its culture, people and processes.
The Chairperson has a strategic role to play by effectively communicating the vision and purpose of the organisation, to ensure the Board functions well and that there is full participation at meetings.
Key Skills:
- Leadership: Provide leadership to the charity and its Board, ensuring that the Charity has maximum impact for its beneficiaries. Ensure that Trustees fulfil their duties and responsibilities for the effective governance of the Charity. Liaise, support and where appropriate challenge the CEO, ensuring that operational duties and responsibilities are appropriately delegated to the staff cohort.
- Governance: Ensure that the governance arrangements are working in the most effective way for the Charity. Develop the knowledge and capability of the Board of Trustees. Encourage positive change where appropriate. Address and resolve any conflicts within the Board.
- External Relations: Act as a spokesperson for the organisation when appropriate. Represent the charity at external functions, meetings, and events.
- Efficiency and Effectiveness: Chair meetings of the Board of Trustees effectively and efficiently, bring impartiality and objectivity to meetings and decision making and ensure that decisions made at meetings are implemented.
- To promote good governance: Ensure that the Board operates within its charitable objectives, and provides a clear strategic direction for the Charity.
- Induction: Leading on recruitment of suitable new charity trustees. Supporting new charity trustees thorough the induction process.
Board Meetings:
There are generally 8-9 board meetings a year.
