Director with Marketing, Public Relations, Communications experience

The Board of Childhood Cancer Ireland is seeking an enthusiastic Director to join its Board. The ideal candidate will have Marketing, PR and Communications experience at a senior level in corporate or government department.  

If you want to play a key role in developing and securing future services for Children, Adolescents, Young Adults and Survivors (CAYAS) living with cancer and their families, we are keen to hear from you. 

Childhood Cancer Foundation Ireland over the past 11 years has grown exponentially.    In 2022 we were joined by CanCare4Living and have rebranded under the name Childhood Cancer Ireland after a facilitated merger process.  

We are at a pivotal moment for the charity where we will focus on ensuring that our key messages are effectively communicated to our community, stakeholders, the public, healthcare professionals, corporate sectors, and government entities.

To achieve this aim, we are seeking a skilled and experienced individual to take on the crucial role of assisting in developing and delivering a comprehensive Marketing/PR/Communications strategy for our organisation.

We very much welcome applications and interest from those that have a strong understanding and empathy for those living with a CAYA cancer diagnosis, its effects and beyond. 

This Board of Directors role is unpaid in line with the Charities Regulator requirements; however, reasonable expenses may be paid in line with Childhood Cancer Ireland’s expenses policy. 

Responsibilities will include the following: 

  • Assisting in developing and implementing marketing, communications and PR campaigns to effectively convey our key messages and themes
  • Ensuring best practices in marketing, public relations, and communications
  • Building and maintaining relationships with key stakeholders (including fellow Board Members, our Executive Team, the CAYAS community, Healthcare & Corporate sectors and Government)
  • Essential Skills/Qualities required for these roles: 
  • A deep appreciation of the Not-For-Profit sector and its workings 
  • At least 3 year’s experience operating at a senior level  
  • An understanding of and commitment to our mission and vision and the ability to collaborate effectively with fellow Directors and our Executive team.
  • Dedication to upholding the highest standards of charity governance.
  • Ability to think strategically and to contribute to the overall wellbeing and direction of the organisation.
  • Previous experience or knowledge of the charity sector is desirable e.g., previous board or sub-committee roles or volunteering experience.

Board Meetings: 

There will be a minimum of six board meetings and a minimum of three sub-committee meetings a year.  

Meetings are held primarily by virtual means but there will be at least two meetings in person during the year held at a central location.
