Role Overview:
As a Board Member with legal expertise, you will provide essential guidance on legal matters, ensuring that the DFI operates in compliance with relevant laws and regulations. You will play a key role in supporting good governance, mitigating risks, and contributing to the strategic objectives of the federation.
Key Responsibilities:
1. Governance and Compliance:
- Advise the Board on legal and regulatory requirements to ensure compliance with Irish laws, including the Companies Act and the federation's Articles of Association.
- Support the development and implementation of governance policies to ensure accountability and transparency.
- Monitor legal changes affecting the federation and recommend updates to policies and practices.
2. Contracts and Agreements:
- Review and provide advice on contracts, agreements, and partnerships to protect the DFI's interests.
- Ensure proper documentation and negotiation of terms in sponsorship, funding, and service agreements.
3. Risk Management:
- Identify and evaluate potential legal risks facing the organization and propose mitigation strategies.
- Guide the Board on risk management policies, including data protection, intellectual property, and liability matters.
4. Dispute Resolution and Advocacy:
- Assist in handling disputes or grievances involving members, stakeholders, or external parties.
- Represent or liaise with legal professionals in matters requiring external legal support.
5. Policies and Procedures:
- Contribute to the drafting and review of organizational policies, such as safeguarding, employment, and equality policies.
- Ensure that policies align with current legislation and best practices.
6. Board Collaboration:
- Actively participate in Board meetings, committees, and decision-making processes.
- Collaborate with fellow Board members to achieve the strategic goals of the DFI.
Skills and Qualifications:
- Professional legal qualification and experience practicing law in Ireland.
- Strong knowledge of Irish corporate governance, employment law, and data protection.
- Excellent analytical, communication, and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to work collaboratively with Board members and stakeholders.
- Passion for DanceSport and the vision and mission of the DFI.
Time Commitment:
This is a voluntary role requiring attendance at Board meetings (typically held quarterly) and active participation in the work of the Board. Additional time may be required for specific legal matters or projects.
