The Liberties Community Project

Board Trustee / Treasurer (Volunteer)

The Liberties Community Project is a vibrant community development organisation operating in the Liberties Area of South West Inner City Dublin. The organisation is the result of a legal amalgamation of Robert Emmet CDP and SICCDA, two community development organisations operating in the Liberties since 2003 and 1982 respectively, completed in 2024.

The aim of The Liberties Community Project is to build resilient and empowered community through the delivery  a variety of programmes that service local need, provide opportunities for community members to participate in decisions that affect the area and for the relief of poverty and economic hardship.

We deliver Afterschool, Integration, Community Employment, Social Enterprise, Community Development, Oliver Bond Regeneration and Liberties Festival programmes of work to meet these needs.

  Board Trustee’s take on general duties such as to:

  • Comply with The Liberties Community Project governing documents
  • Ensuring The Liberties Community Project is complying with its charitable purpose for the public benefit
  • Acting in the best interest of The Liberties Community Project
  • Act with reasonable care and skill
  • Manage the assets of The Liberties Community Project

Responsibilities will include the following:

  • Working with the Finance Manager to ensure that the organisation meets its legal financial obligations and that its finances are properly managed
  • Support the organisation prepare for Audit
  • To have insight and comprehensive knowledge of charity financial policies and controls best practices; evaluate and monitor the adequacy of current controls and procedures and ensure that the organisation is compliant with best practice principles
  • Financial forecasting and risk analysis
  • Advise the Board on financial implications of proposals, cash flow, projects
  • Oversight of compliance and risk management in line with usual board responsibilities
  • To be an authorised signatory of the charity
  • To attend Board meetings (Annual General Meeting, General Meetings, and extraordinary general meetings as required) 
  • Provide input to the strategic direction of The Liberties Community Project and contributing with insight, oversight, and experience of strategy formulation in the sector
  • Ultimately the Trustee/Treasurer needs to ensure that the Liberties Community Project operates in a transparent and fair way

Essential Skills/Qualities required for these roles:

  • Chartered Accountant with relevant years professional experience
  • An appreciation of Community Development work
  • An understanding of and commitment to our mission and values
  • Commitment to highest levels of governance 
  • If a candidate has governance experience, that would be welcome. 

 

Board Meetings:

There are 11 Board meetings per year, which are held on the first Monday of each month (except August) at 6pm.

Trustee’s also have an opportunity to join sub-committees.  

Meetings are held in 90 Meath Street, Dublin 8.
