Avista CLG are seeking a Charity trustee with a Legal background to join our existing Board of Directors.
Background
Avista is a person-centred, rights-based organisation that is dedicated to improving the lives of children and adults with intellectual disabilities.
Avista delivers services in Dublin, Limerick, North Tipperary, and Offaly to both adults and children with intellectual disabilities and/ or complex support needs. It currently provides supports to over 3,000 individuals and employees over 2,000 staff. Avista is registered with the Companies Registration Office and with the Charity Regulatory Authority. Avista is a section 38 organisations that receives it core funding through contracts with HSE, Pobal and deliver them under Service Level Agreements
Experience required:
· Minimum five years’ professional experience in a legal expertise role, e.g., a Qualified Solicitor or Barrister.
· Knowledge of the relevant requirements of the 2009 Charities Act and the Charities Regulator, including the Charities Governance Code.
· Knowledge of the relevant requirement of the 2014 Companies Act.
Range of Desirable Legal Expertise being sought.
· Experience in Employment Law
· Interest and Experience in Human Rights
· Interest and Experience in Disability Sector
· Experience in Corporate Governance
Applicants for this role will preferably have experience of membership of a Board of Directors.
Time Commitment and Location:
· The main Avista Board currently meeting bimonthly. Anticipated time commitment is between 6 and 12 hours every two month(bimonthly board meeting (4h) + + preparation time /reading documentation between meetings).
There are 2 Board committees.
· Audit, Assets, Finance and Renumeration
· Quality and Risk
Meetings take place 6 times a year and are mostly online. Membership of one of the above committees which would increase the time commitment to 12 and 24 hours every two months.
