Gorey Family Resource Centre

Gorey Family Resource Centre is part of the National Family Resource Centre Programme. There are currently 121 communities supported by this Programme which is funded through the Tusla / Child and Family Agency. Resources are provided to establish an independent community run Family Resource Centre (FRC) in areas experiencing high levels of disadvantage. It is Ireland’s largest family support initiative and is an integral part of the Child and Family Agency's Local Area Pathways model. The Programme emphasises involving local communities, individuals and families in tackling the problems they face, and creating successful partnerships between voluntary and statutory agencies at community level. FRC's are by nature participative and empowering organisations that provide supports while also building the capacity and leadership of local communities.
Family Resource Centres provide a large range of universal or targeted services as well as development opportunities that address the needs of families and individuals which include:
• Delivering educational courses and training opportunities
• Establishing & maintaining community groups that meet local needs and deliver services at local level
• The provision of counselling and support services
• Developing capacity and leadership within communities
• Enhancing family and child resilience and emotional and physical well-being through the provision of depth support to families who are struggling
• Strengthening the local communities engagement with other services and supports through referral
• Practical assistance to individuals, families and community groups to access information technology, office facilities and rights and entitlements
• Practical assistance to existing community groups to address specific social issues
• Supporting networking within the community
• Contributing to social and policy change.
