80:20 Educating and Acting for a Better World is seeking individuals with proven knowledge and experience in several areas to join our growing Board of Trustees. Previous voluntary experience serving on a Board or Committee is desirable.
80:20 is a not-for-profit NGO based in Bray Co. Wicklow that advances human rights and development education in Ireland and internationally. 80:20 aims to achieve this through advocacy, research, publications, digital platforms, training and ‘educational activism’ interventions.
As a member of the Board of Trustees, you will benefit from working closely with other board members, from a variety of professions and backgrounds, to achieve a common purpose for 80:20.
We are seeking new volunteer board members with specific experience and skills to lead and/or support in the following areas business development and/or finance, fundraising, governance, human resources, media/communications, education (formal or nonformal education such as higher education, post-primary education, youth work, adult and community education etc.),
As a member of the Board of Trustees you will ensure that 80:20 is:
- Carrying out its charitable purposes for the public benefit
- Complying with its Governing Documents
- Aware of and complying with the reporting requirements that apply to the charity.
You will also be required to
- Work with other trustees to reach required decisions to further 80:20’s purpose
- Support the responsible management of resources
- Embody the values of 80:20 and be impartial when carrying out your duties
- Bring your experience and skills to the role of charity trustee
- Be informed - attending and contributing at regular meetings of the board of trustees
- Participate as a member on a minimum of one sub-committee
- Provide input to the strategic direction of 80:20
There will be a minimum of five board meetings a year. Two of these meeting will take place in person at a central Dublin/Bray location and the remaining three meetings will take place online. Board members are expected to attend all meetings. Additional committee work takes place outside of these meetings, usually online. The term of office runs for a 3-year term with an option to renew for a second term by agreement of the Board.
Shortlisted candidates will be invited to participate in an online interview with two current board members
