Treasurer - Poppintree Board of Directors
The Opportunity
Poppintree Early Education Centre is seeking a Treasurer for its board of directors. The treasurer plays a key role in PEEC's governance, financial management, and strategic direction. This is a great opportunity for someone with financial skills to contribute positively to high-quality early childhood education in care in Ballymun.
About Poppintree Early Education Centre
Poppintree Early Education Centre is an independent charity and a company limited by guarantee. Founded in 2010, Poppintree Early Education Centre delivers high-quality education, care, and family support for children aged six months to 4 years living in one of Ireland’s most socio-economically deprived areas in Poppintree, Ballymun. We operate two early childhood services, a full-day service for up to 48 children in the Poppintree Sports Centre and a part-time Pop-Up Pre-School for up to 22 children in St. Joseph’s Primary School. Children who attend Poppintree Early Education Centres have access to an inclusive, nurturing, and stimulating early childhood care and education experience that ensures every child is supported to reach their full potential.
The Treasurer
The treasurer is a key member of the board of directors and fulfils the responsibilities of a director (charity trustee) according to the Charities Governance Code. The ideal candidate will demonstrate skills and experience in the following areas:
- Board membership
- Financial management, strategy and governance (including in the non-profit sector)
- Charity law, governance, and compliance
- Strategic planning and implementation
- Fundraising
- Commitment to the Poppintree Early Education Centre’s mission and aims.
The treasurer will likely have a professional finance, auditing, or similar background. They may also have gained some of the following skills, qualifications, experiences, or knowledge sets in either a professional or volunteer capacity:
- Human resources management
- Public relations and advocacy work
- Knowledge/understanding of equality-based/human rights-based
- Equality-based/human rights-based approaches
- The community and voluntary sector in Ireland
Responsibilities
Responsibilities of directors of Poppintree Early Education Centre include oversight and governance of:
- Collaborative working with all stakeholders to achieve objectives
- Compliance
- Safeguarding assets
- Monitoring efficient use of resources
- Monitoring and mitigating risk
- Financial planning and fundraising
- Strategic management
- Policy review
- Oversight
- Fostering a culture of openness, responsiveness, and accountability in the organisation
Time commitment
- The treasurer will actively commit to the organisation and participate fully at all meetings. The current allocation of time is:
- Approximately 18 hours per year is spent on meetings of the board of directors (6/8 meetings per year)
- Review the bi-monthly financial projections and spending reports prepared by Crann CLG.
- Review of the Draft Annual Audited Accounts.
